Is there a HDR to SDR setting in VLC?

Postby Zeroblu » 24 Feb 2025 01:55

I have several 4K mkvs of BRs that are full size and still retain HDR. The issue is I have a high quality projector using WUXGA 1920 x 1200 with my HTPC. Full size 4K appear washed out because my SDR projector can't handle the HDR. Is there setting in VLC that will playback a HDR 4K video as SDR?

Comments from a few years ago said to go into VIDEO/Choose OPENGL and set TONE MAPPING to REINHARD. None of the Tone Mapping choices have an effect on 4K on mine. I'm going to experiment with BT709 in Handbrake and FFmpeg.
