IMM5 CODEC

Postby MWatsonANB » 29 Apr 2022 15:19

I ran across some videos from a client that we needed to use in a deposition that would not play in VLC. I got an IMM5 CODEC error. I can't find any information just about anywhere on that CODEC (plenty on IMM4), and I'm wondering if there is such a thing for VLC.

I ended up using the Windows Media Player in WIN10 Pro and turning on captions, as we needed the date/time stamp to display but would like to be able to count on VLC in the future because this would not play in WIN 11 native apps.

It seems to be a codec made by GeoVision which is used in CCTV surveillance cameras and which is not supported by VLC (yet ?).
You can upload a short sample of your original problematic file to Zippyshare.com or to WeTransfer.com and then post the link to the file here, so the devs can have a look at it:
https://www.zippyshare.com
https://wetransfer.com

200 MB max should be enough.
