Issue: An mp4 file generated with VLC, from a *.mkv file, only plays audio on VLC. Other Win 10 media players like Win Media player, Movies+TV, will play video, but audio does NOT play.
I like 4B others are now ripping content from old DVDs, to save as MP4s to play on current and future devices. I used MakeMKV to rip the home movie content (video+audio) to a *.mkv file using standard settings. Then used VLC to convert to mp4 (Media -> Convert/Save). This process works fine, no issues, other than I have noticed that other applications can't play audio (video is fine) on the VLC generated mp4 file. (Other mp4s on my PC play fine with Win Media Player, etc).
I have done the obvious, yes, the sound(speakers) are not muted, all the drivers are updated, and it does not appear to be a codec issue, unless a "VLC generated MP4" is a different codec than an "any other MP4".
Anyone see this issue? I simply don't want to (in the future) be limited to one and only one app to play these mp4 movies. - much thanks, first post, anxious to solve.
