How do I open 2 video files at once?

Postby Alobar » 11 Jan 2019 08:40

I’d like to use VLC 3.0.4 on my macOS 10.14.2 MacBook Pro to compare two video files. I want to open each file and scrobble them both to the same time and then switch back and forth between the files to compare their resolution. Can this be done? I can’t find a way in the preferences to enable it.

I used to be able to do this in an older version of Movist, but since upgrading to Mojave I had to buy the new version of Movist and it only uses the macOS fullscreen mode, which doesn’t allow opening multiple files simultaneously.

Can you duplicate the VLC app (name it VLC2 or something) and then open each file in it's own VLC app? That was my solution on iMac for a similar situation but may not be the most practical.

Just start a second instance of VLC on the command line:
/Applications/VLC.app/Contents/MacOS/VLC filename

Return to “VLC media player for macOS Troubleshooting”
