Chapter support for audio on Android

Postby rigsel » 24 Mar 2018 15:26

Hi guys,
Could you add chapter support for audio only, specially on Android?

VLC for Android handles chapters playing videos, not audio only.
I plaid an MP4 video with chapters and I could change chapter from menu "...".
I tried with an M4A (which is an audio-only MP4) and didn't have the option.

Could you add two buttons to jump to previous / next chapter, just like VLC for Windows?
Thanks

I store my audio in flac files with embedded songs/chapters. The plan was always to convert the spoken word to Opus when it matured. Currently, I use Rockbox and Foobar on Ipod/Windows respectively. This set up has proved very convenient over the years but alas, change is being forced upon me.
I find that chapters are woefully implemented in Android: apps list support for flac, opus and chapters but so far, none seem to be able to handle the combination. Perhaps I haven't found the correct container yet: ogg? mka? m4a?
Are there any plans within VLC to implement embedded chapters in Flac or Opus?
[Sorry if I've hijacked your post rigsel but it does pertain to the whole Android/chapters issues.]

VLC has both. See desktop version.

Thanks, but it's the Android version I'm interested in.

They are implemented, but not visible :)

Hi, thanks for the info about the chapter support for audio files in VLC for Android. Great to hear that it's already implemented. Is there any chance to actually also make the controls visible / accessible from GUI? This would be incredibly helpful for the whole audiobook community. Thanks a lot!
