Problems with making Videolan player working

Postby somewhereusa » 03 Feb 2015 16:05

I have used this program for years. I started using another media player because VLC was so slow loading the video.
But I got tired of the nagging from the other program wanting me to upgrade to their professional version $$$.

So I uninstalled a very early version and installed the 2.08 version for win 7 64 because their was an extension available
that would allow for the video file to be saved(remembered last position).

Everything was working fine until I ran into a FLV file. The only way VLC 2.08 version would play was for me to
click on the Start menu icon and go to open file. Then it would play the file. I went into preferences and checked off Flv to make sure it would play the file.

It would still only play flv files by going through the start menu not by clicking on the open file menu. Now all video files are acting this way. I used to be
able to choose the video file, click the right mouse tab and go to open with..... VLC. What happens the mouse flickers a little bit but the file
never opens up.

So I went in a deleted the whole program through Control Panel....Ptrograms... Delete/uninstall.

So I just retried the program and the right click menu option open with is still not working. What is wrong?

Just let everybody know I got it to work again. What I do not know if it was because of A. Shutting down the computer and rebooting or B. After deleting the program for a
second time I checked under the Videolan file folder in Program Files and found that there were some files left-over that Windows Program...Change/undelete did not
get rid of. So I deleted those accessory files. I then re-installed the program and it works like a champ. Now I just need to re-add the extension and I will be good to go.
I have a program that is suppose to unlock programs when windows will not release a file. But it would not work with VLC application file under Wideolan file folder. I guess it is tied into the windows registry and can only be released the Old fashion way of rebooting. So anyway thanks for letting me discuss this.

It's me again2.08
Going back to my original problems. I thought it was related to choosing file formats incorrectly. Now I do not know what to think. I was using 2.08v because reading in the apps section it said that Remember file position seemed to work better with that version.

When my computer came out of sleep mode the only way I could get VLC to work was go to the icon on the start menu. It would not work in right click mode.

Son I installed re-installed VLC v2.15 and did not add the extension(Remember Last Position). I want to experiment to see if it works correctly. I never had this problem with a way early version of VLC
