Remote Control for multiple instances / play in sync

Postby KarstenSchneider » 04 Nov 2014 12:19

Hi there!

actually i have a very special problem / idea, for which i already found some solutions, but cannot really use them.

First a description of the idea: There are three rooms where 6 different videos shall be played in sync. All videos have the same length und shall repeat automatically. It is important, that every film starts and ends in sync, because the logo of a local soocer club can be seen at the end of the films - this logo shall be visible at the same times in the three different rooms. For every video to be shown a pc (windows 7) and monitor are planned.

Idea of solution 1
First i thought of setting up 6 streams from one "server", that play in sinc. I already got one stream working in sync on 5 computers. Nevertheless i didn't found an opportunity to sync multiple streams and even think that the system loads and bandwith may be a problem. It would be perfect to use a scalable solution, so i stopped further planning.

Idea of solution 2
Then i got the idea of remote controlling the VLC instances - so the clients can load the videos from their local harddisc and VLC just gives a "sync-start-command" to start all players in sync. I think it is necesary to "restart / resync" all playbacks, because of a possible delay from starting the film on different clients.

Because I'm a Windows-user (no comment needed) and - as you already noticed - my english is quite bad, i do not really understand the tutorials (mostly written for Linux) and don't know, what is actually to do. :?

Could some explain how do to this for me? It would be a dream, to get an usable Script for Windows, so i only need to define things like Files, IP-adresses etc. - but i even more want to understand, what exactly is to do.

Thanks in advance! :)

Here are some links i found while searching for a solution, i guess they might be helpful to you experts.
