Opening certain DVDs stops VLC randomly

Postby Pagan » 25 Jul 2005 00:56

Hi there,

when I open some DVDs (in play mode only, w/o menu, it happens too, with enus however), for Example Star Wars Trilogy Disc 1 (A New Hope, German Pal Version, of course original), VLC opens the File just fine, but when the DVD reaches certain areas, it just shuts down (just like when there's an incontinous stream and vlc can't go on regularly). It can be forced, when you jump in the middle of the dvd!

At first i thought, it was a CSS problem, so i changed the dvdcss method to disc and the others, but it didnt help

I have AnyDVD installed, so I first thought, it could be that this be the problem, but it wasn't. I deinstalled it, but the "stops" continued (after a reboot,OC)

Other dvds (i.e. LOTR, Indiana Jones, Blade, Fight Club) work just fine!

My Specs are as follows:

Windows XP Pro SP 2 (4 week old installation)
AMD Athlon Barton 2500+ (@2150)
1024MB Ram
Ati Radeon 9800pro bios modded to XT
VLC 8.2 (and testing version 1-3)
Asus A7N8X Deluxe Rev 2.0
Onboard sound via SP/DIF to Dolby Digital Receiver

my regards for that fine piece of software you wrote there!

Open the messages window. Play the DVD. wait till it stops. Copy the last 50 lines or so from the messages window and paste it in this thread.

However my first guess would be scratched or dirty DVD.

Hi DJ,

Could you please look at my yesterday's thread 'Streaming DVDs.....' (the last 50 lines or so of the problem dvd is at the end) and comment if you can see the reason for not streaming ? Thanks, pcd.

I also have this problem on Fedora Core 4, which VLC stop after playing DVD disc for awhile.

Can it be due to screen saver activation ? HOw to fix it ? Thanks

So, i FINALLY got it reproduced, cause i havent had the time to do so...

it can be forced, when you jump in the middle or so of the dvd... this time i tried the pal version of the incredibles...

the chapter jumps however do work and playing it through works nearly always too...

Any Solution Here

Postby Chrys » 05 Nov 2005 20:57

I'm wondering if this is a Windows XP problem since I have another pc with W2K and VLC runs perfectly in the open disc mode.

With XP, the movie stops when it encounters a menu where you have to make a selection before the movie advances.

any ideas?
