I know this post is 4 years old, but I have been having the exact same problem trying to rip a DVD: Once VLC gets to the end of the main title (the movie itself), it starts ripping the other titles, which I guess is special features. And if I stop the conversion, the resulting file shows the time as "0:00:00", and doesn't play (which I wouldn't expect it to with a zero running time). So I can't even find out if the main movie is being ripped correctly to a watchable file.
I have tried to find an answer to this online the last couple of days, with very little results. One post I found (I believe it was here on the VideoLan forums, but I'm not completely sure) said that they downgraded to an earlier version of VLC, and that seemed to fix it for them. But that post was also a couple of years old at least, and of course VLC has been updated several times since then (I don't remember what version they downgraded to).
But I don't want to have to downgrade: I'd like to rip some DVDs to make sure it's working right, but I've hit this snag. I was hoping that it would be fixed by now, or maybe there's a setting I'm missing. I did see somewhere else that in the Convert/Save settings, there's the options for "No DVD menus", which I've been checking, and the "dvdsimple" option, which seems to be automatically selected, but it shows the title number after that. But again, after converting all the chapters in the title, it continues to rip the other titles on the DVD.
Any help with this, for me and the original poster (if they even read this after so long...!) would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
