Fedora 6 Trouble - Missing Dependency

Postby JohnnyFu » 03 Feb 2007 17:56

Hi,

I follwed the Fedora Yum repository Instructions. Everyting works fine so far, but when i type in "yum install vlc", yum ends up with an error:

Code: Select all

Error: Missing Dependency: mozilla >= 1.7.13 is needed by package vlc Error: Missing Dependency: libgnutls.so.11(GNUTLS_REL_1_0_9) is needed by package vlc Error: Missing Dependency: libdbus-1.so.1 is needed by package vlc Error: Missing Dependency: libgnutls.so.11 is needed by package vlc
Any help or suggestion would be much appreciated !

I am having this exact problem. Argh!

UPDATE: SOLVED go here - http://www.gagme.com/greg/linux/fc6-tips.php

NOTE: You have to be root for all of this

Code: Select all

Add support for other repositories Fedora core 6 has one major problem where on some systems it installs the i586 version of the kernel instead of i686. What this means is that those systems will be a little slower and will lack CPU frequency scaling. If you are running an i686 based system you can force the installation of the correct kernel by booting the installer with the following command: linux i686 Fedora comes with a ton of software but there are still plenty of packages of interest to most users that are not included for a variety of reasons. This is where you find the MP3 plug-in and a ton of other packages. These instructions can vary depending on 32bit or 64bit architecture. If there is a difference it will be noted. If you don't know which architecture you're running you can run the following command: $ uname -m x86_64 ...or... i686 I'm still working on the 64 bit specific instructions so your feedback is very important. Before you add repositories it's probably a good idea to make sure your system is fully updated first. It's still early but right now the Livna and freshrpms repositories seems to be the most useful. The easiest way to get started is to install the freshrpms-release packages: Both 32 and 64 bits: # rpm -ihv http://ayo.freshrpms.net/fedora/linux/6/i386/RPMS.freshrpms/freshrpms-release-1.1-1.fc.noarch.rpm 32 bit version: # rpm -ihv http://rpm.livna.org/fedora/6/i386/livna-release-6-1.noarch.rpm <-------- the one i installed 64 bit version: # rpm -ihv http://rpm.livna.org/fedora/6/x86_64/livna-release-6-1.noarch.rpm Then Install VLC (VideoLAN Client) Multimedia can be the achilles heel of Linux, but with just a little work you should be able to play just about anything your friends can. Besides Mplayer the other great video player is called VLC. It too is trivially easy to install once you have your repositories set up: # yum -y install videolan-client <-------- worked like a hot damn Once the client and a zillion dependencies get installed you can play a huge variety of video formats easy with the command vlc
I've been using Linux for a total of two days so I'm sure you can figure it out.

Thanks alot !

What i had to do was:

Code: Select all

rpm -ihv http://ayo.freshrpms.net/fedora/linux/6/i386/RPMS.freshrpms/freshrpms-release-1.1-1.fc.noarch.rpm
and then "yum install videolan-client" worked fine

Ok, i know exactly where you(pl) are coming from,
ive been trying to install Vlan VLC, VideoLan, Video lan for the past
two days now on my FC6, Fedora Core 6 box. [ note that was for metatags]
i joined this forum especially for the cause of saving peoples time with this fc6 problem.

the solution is two codes
note - you must be root to do this
type "su" into the terminal [without quotes] and then your password

[Part 1]

Code: Select all

http://rpm.livna.org/rlowiki/UsingLivna Fedora Core 6 rpm -ivh http://rpm.livna.org/livna-release-6.rpm Fedora Core 5 rpm -ivh http://rpm.livna.org/livna-release-5.rpm Fedora Core 4 rpm -ivh http://rpm.livna.org/livna-release-4.rpm
[Part 2]

Code: Select all

yum -y install videolan-client

goonmaster: I can't understand what it does, but it works! Also I wonder how did it install the latest 0.8.6a while there is no such a version in the mirrors listed on this site!

It must be made sticky!
