VLC 0.8.6a interferes with sound output in others apps

Postby Souljah » 22 Jan 2007 08:35

Hi,

Well I use VLC 0.8.6a on windows and I don't have this problem on there. Whenever I play music on vlc and then talking on skype or gizmoproject, it didn't give me any errors.

However, on linux it's not that way. I can play music fine. When I try to make a call on skype or even start gizmo, it doesn't send any output sound on skype and gives me an error on gizmo:

Code: Select all

No audio output devices are currently available
. Why is this happening? Also, say supposing I don't start VLC and I start gizmo. It starts up just fine with no errors and I can make calls without a problem. However, when I then try to open up VLC and play music, it doesn't work, no sound. I tried with rhythmbox musicplayer and that works fine. So it's not a problem with my audio files it seems.

I'm on Ubuntu 6.06 LTS Dapper Drake. All files/packages have been updated.

How can I fix this?

What audio output are you using? Look in Settings -> Preferences -> Audio - Output Modules.

It says DEFAULT. I haven't changed that. ALSA is not listed there. Also, I don't think it's only with VLC, I think it maybe with my sound card but only in linux. I'm not able to play multiple sounds. For example, I open up skype and it works fine but then when I open up gizmo, I cannot hear anything.
