VLC video playing problem

Postby Sara910 » 15 Jan 2007 04:35

When I play certain video file types, there is a green border and the image is distorted. I can't seem to find what the problem is. Most of the files that are being played are .avi.

Press ctrl i while playing the video then go to the advanced info... tab. Post that here.

It could be that the resolution of the source it to much for your machine or video cards color or resolution settings. First Open your Task Manager and look at CPU usage. If the usage is 90 to 100% you will have problems but this does sound more like a video card memory or driver issue. So try playing a commercial DVD (not sitting on a menu) and once again note the CPU usage. It should be about 1 or 2%. If it is more like 25 to 30% you are missing a AGP or PCIe driver. You could also try reducing the color depth and or resolution of the video card.

There is nothing unusual about an XviD with ac3 in a .avi container and the resolution of the source video should pose no problems.

This could be a video driver issue or a video memory issue. Try reducing the color depth and or resolution of the video card.

Nero probably doesn't support the sound format.

A question about playing the Nasa Media Channel, the link http://www.nasa.gov/145590main_Digital_Media.asx doesn't start in VLC but it does start in Windows Media Player.
Does anybody know why? :?

Vlc just doesn't handle re-directing urls well.
