Apple Remote and Hotkeys on Mac Mini

I would like to change the key bindings on the apple remote on a mac mini.

I would have thought this was done in the preference/inteface/hotkeys menu. I assume that "media next track" is a short press of the right dial key on the remote. However, no matter what I bind it to, it still does "next track".

Am I doing the wrong thing? Also, how would I distinguish long press from short press?

Regrettably, you can't change the key bindings of the Apple Remote. Be assured, that we will improve the current bindings with our next major release, but for technical reasons, we can't allow customisation right now.
