no picture when i start a .avi file or a dvd

I don't get any picture when i start a movie in it.. i'm running Ubuntu Edgy 6.10

The problem is related to FFmpeg suggest you to recompile FFmpeg with this option, then recompile VLC with the new FFmpeg.
