Editing Default skin?

Is there a way to edit the default skin without using Skin2 module?

If not is there a default XML template somewhere? (not the Skin2 default).

If what you call the default skin is the wxWidgets interface (with a title bar, a menu bar, etc...), then no, you can't change it unless you modify the code and compile the module yourself.

Is there a skin available that looks like that interface?

All the available skins are on http://www.videolan.org/vlc/skins.php.
You can also use Winamp2 (.wsz) skins.
