summary: Region locked DVD on VLC

Let me summarise the discussion:

From the previous discussion it seems to me that VLC currently does not play any DVDs of any region on Powerbooks (without firmware flash)?

Is that correct?

It is a pitty!

That is not correct.
However there is a large amount of Powerbooks which only allow you to play DVD's in the region your drive is set to.

There are also some which DO work with all DVDs (don't ask which, noone knows)
Don't use PMs for support questions.

region code block playing

Postby david71 » 15 Jun 2004 17:18

I just bought a new eMac with an internal combo drive and external LaCie firewire dvd burner. I completely deleted the mac iDVD player application so that I could play DVD's without setting region codes on either drive. I use VLC 0.7.2 in OS X 10.3.3. Before deleting, if I refused to set the region, the drive would spit out the disc. I've spent the last two months replacing Apple's apps with 3rd party stuff, so now I can do what I want with MY computer.

Well I just got a PowerBook G4 1.33Ghz (combo drive) and VLC plays my USA and UK DVDs just fine (I have my DVD drive set to region 2). Although I have to wait about 20secs for VLC to start playing my region 1 disks.
