Skins disabling automatic play (?)

Postby ________ » 29 Nov 2006 20:44

Whenever I double-click an mp3 file (I have not any attempted to open other file types since I decided to try out a skin), VLC used to start up and immediately start playing. However, whenever I use skins - *any* skins - this simply does not happen, and the play button has to be clicked manually. Trivial, to be sure, but also slightly irritating. Is this a common problem, is there a workaround, and why, exactly, does this happen?

It's probably because of the weird shortcuts created by the installer on windows. Have a look at the default one, there is probably an option called '--started-from-file' (or something similar), that you should add to the skins2 shortcut as well.

The skins2 shortcut? I have no shortcuts with skins2 in its name. The closest to that would most probably be "VLC media player (skins)". This may or may not be my own edit of the original filename. I... like tweaking things as soon as I lay my hands on them. This shortcut's path is simply the location of "vlc.exe" plus the tag "--intf skins".

Edit: Should I add anything to the tag?

Yes, i was talking about "VLC media player (skins)". Compare it with the other shortcut: if it has more than simply "--intf wx", try adding the rest to the "VLC media player (skins)" shortcut.
BTW, did you try resetting the preferences first? This may solve the problem. And if you may have broken something by playing with the shortcuts, consider uninstalling/reinstalling...

The other shortcut does not even have "--intf wx". It only lists the path to "vlc.exe". Heh. I must admit to having changed the preferences quite a bit, however, I have gone over them, time and again, and to my limited knowledge, it does not appear to have caused a problem. But! I could easily be mistaken.

Hmmm. I might reinstall, but I will save that as a last resort. Why? I do not know.
