List of supported files types

Postby otto0815 » 25 Nov 2006 22:30

Hello

i was surprised that vlc can play mpc (musepack)
and module (mod it xm s3m 669 ...) files

both are not listed on the feature list on the homepage

is there a complete list with all supported file types ?
on the vlc-wiki is a small list but the list is not complete

File types represent the container the format is associated with. VLC supports all the common containers that are open source and a list can be found when you install the player. This gives you the choice to associate a file type to VLC.

FLV is new and experimental. I believe support will be added officially in 0.8.6

VLC 0.8.6 test 2 is showing good results. I'm not familiar with MPC or MOD??

flv is working very good with the test version

only seeking isn't working
vlc stops playing the video when trying to seek

media player classic is able to seek flv
but it only plays audio from flv files and shows a white screen

but may be a look at media player classic source code and how it handle flv files will help to enable seeking

even if mpc (muspack) and the mod files are not on the feature list
vlc plays them without errors
vlc seems to support even more mod formats than modplug player or winamp or xmplay :-)

MPC is seeking the audio because there is no Video. This is a known issue in VLC and hopefully it will be resolved before 0.8.6 final. Still at the moment it is better than 0.8.5 was for most users because it is recognizing the greater majority of FLV files.
