Installing on Damn Small Linux?

I have DSL 3.1 and would like to install VLC, but I don't know which version of VLC to get, and depending on which I might not know how to install it. Which one would be best?

can't you "apt-get install vlc" ? (people mentioned that on the DSL forum)

this install only an verry early version of vlc. i think 0.2.9
I can't found deinterlacing or other modern settings.
have you an oter idea to install vlc 0.84 up without compiling all the needed packages?

someone has to compile it, if it's not your distributor, it's you :/
