Artifacts when browsing through a movie.

Postby Hawko » 25 Oct 2006 01:17

So, I've been using VLC Media Player for quite a while now, and while it's a real great player and all, there is something that has been bothering me.

And that is when I am watching clips in .wmv-format, and then "browse" through the movie with the slider on the bottom of the screen, and then the clip starts playing at where I wanted it to play, but the picture has some artifacts for a few seconds.

Looks sort of like this:

Is there a solution to this?

Ya! Ask the dude that makes the video not to space keyframes so far apart. This will make for better and quicker seeking. :)

Closer keyframes would just lower this problem but not eliminating them right? Couldn't one solution be that VLC finds the closest keyframe before the position from you release the scroll bar and start playing from there?

VLC is a streaming client, and as such doesn't do nearest keyframe seeking when you seek in a video file.
Don't use PMs for support questions.
