Dear all,
It's my first time to use the VLC.
I am trying to establish a compiling environment with Cygwin at WinXp PC. I followed all the steps of the description on the http://developers.videolan.org/vlc/cygwin-compile.txt file.
However, it can't work.
What should I do and is there any document about this?

Hello,
it seems that you have copied the ./bootstrap and the ./configure both into a file (copy & paste). I had this problem too. Try to execute both scripts after each other each in one line only.
I got stuck on the next problem. If ./bootstrap has executed it deleted and renewed the file autotools/config.sub without ANY rights. So it is not possible for the ./configure to execute it. OK, it was not to hard fixing this but does anybody know if this is a common problem in the environment and coul therefor be fixed in one of the scripts?
My next problem is that it seems that the path to the libraries is incorrect
. During the checks of the ./configure i run into following error:

I already tried to disable dvdread but than other libs can not be found whereas p.e. the ogg libs/header can be found.

I am using the contrib-20061015-win32-bin-gcc-3.4.5-only.tar.bz2 libs and unpacked them with:
tar xjvf contrib-20060730-win32-bin-gcc-3.4.5-only.tar.bz2 -C /
so they got installed into c:\cygwin\usr\win32.

it seems that you have copied the ./bootstrap and the ./configure both into a file (copy & paste). I had this problem too. Try to execute both scripts after each other each in one line only.
I got stuck on the next problem. If ./bootstrap has executed it deleted and renewed the file autotools/config.sub without ANY rights. So it is not possible for the ./configure to execute it. OK, it was not to hard fixing this but does anybody know if this is a common problem in the environment and coul therefor be fixed in one of the scripts?
My next problem is that it seems that the path to the libraries is incorrect

so they got installed into c:\cygwin\usr\win32.

Problem fixed
Hello all,
sorry for this post. I found the problem and it is fixed now.
My problem was that the rights of my cygwin installation were not set correctly due to configuration of my workstation
. The solution was to add my user name in the security settings of the cygwin folder and set to full control. And look all scripts run correct. Isn't it magic
