vlc transcoding problem

Postby gigicarlo » 21 Oct 2006 12:43

Hi List

So here is my little problem.

I would like to transcode a "mkv" matroska file to a standard "Quicktime Movie" let's say mpg or anything. So i can re-edit a movie in imovie or final cut.

Just for fun.....

So i tried to use vlc on a mac-intel laptop (Macbook)

And i got stuck in several points.

1.) If i use the streaming wizard i always get sthg like "no encoder found"

2.) If i try to fix that in the preferences i have no idea what to put into the fields and cannot find it anywhere in the documentation

3.) The i just wanted to check if it works from the commandline, but even there i dont know if it works, and where to find the binaries...

4.) To get the latest UB for macintel i went to the downloadserver...what is appropriate for me ??ß Trunk or branch ???

You see manymany questions, it would be very nice if someone could helb, i really like vlc a lot, but the documentation is not really complete. So i dont see any other way to ask in this forum.

Do i need to download some more codecs or modules or define a path to them ???

I am really stuck here

Thanks a lot in advance

Luigi

Can you even get VLC to play the .mkv file? I don't think VLC has that codec.

I don't know of any way at all to play .mkv files on the Mac o/s. I think you need Windows for that.
