Changing skin - problem...

Postby bravd » 18 Oct 2006 22:08

hi, sorry for my english..

I can't change skin...I do everything what was written on this forum and site, and program still not remember "skinable interface"...(i set this by dropdown & save).
I was trying also to start the program with "vlc media player (skins)", and choose skin but nothing happen...
There were info that I should remove "-I wx" in shortcut but i have this: "--intf wx --no-wx-embed"... ??

I don't know what I should do now...can anybody explain me what i have to do, to change skin..?

I'm using now this ver. of videolan: "vlc-0.9.0-svn-20061018-1453-win32.exe" and i have win98SE...on the ver. 0.8.5 is the same problem...

'--intf wx' is equivalent to '-I wx', so just remove it from the shortcut and it should be fine.

ok, I checked it, and removing '--intf wx' = start the program with "vlc media player (skins)", and so = nothing happening (I choose skin and nothing happening after...program doesn't started...)

I'm not sure to understand what you did exactly. You can do the following (in this order) to be 100% sure:
- reset the preferences
- remove any argument to the shortcut you want to use (so only keep 'vlc.exe')
- start vlc, go to the preferences, and select the skinnable interface as the default interface (in the dropdown, _not_ in the checkbox).
- save the preferences and quit vlc
- restart vlc with the same shortcut: the skinnable interface should be started!

hi, I really don't get it...

I did everything you said:
-start vlc (I have the shortcut on the desktop) & reset the preferences - ok
-remove any argument to the shortcut you want to use (so only keep 'vlc.exe') -ok
-select the skinnable interface as the default interface (in the dropdown, not in the checkbox). - ok
-save&quit vlc - ok

-now i try to restart vlc with the same shortcut and this happen:

vlc starts now like 'vlc (skins)' - program show to me explorer's window and I have to choose\start the *.vlt file...so I choose the skin I've downloaded "Dalin_Media_Player.vlt" (I choose skin from vlc skins folder)...after that this window disappears and nothing happens next, the vlc doesn't started..!

...next, if I want to start vlc, I have to start it from "start menu" now... program starts fine (normally, not like 'vlc skins'), but in 'preferences' interface is still "default"...and it can't be changed because vlc doesn't remember changes I've saved..! ...I've noticed that the shortcut from "start menu" has this: "--intf wx --wx-embed"...- if I remove "--intf wx" or all and keep only 'vlc.exe' - program starts like "vlc (skins)"...and its works like I've written... :(

one more: in the 'preferences', where is "skin to use" I paste the path to the skin I want to use, right? for example: "C:\Program Files\VideoLAN\VLC\skins\Dalin_Media_Player.vlt"

OK, then you have done it correctly, but there is a bug somewhere preventing VLC to display the skin correctly. Could you try with a development version of VLC? Several bugs have been fixed since version 0.8.5. You can try this one for example.

Aaaah yes, it is possible indeed. It's been a long time since anyone tested on win98 afaik...
