need tutorial for LAN stream live miniDV camcorder

Postby wilri01 » 19 Oct 2006 16:00

I'm trying to use a miniDV camcorder to stream a live event across a LAN into another room using XP. I've got it working with Windows Media Encoder and Player, but would like to try using a video card that encodes into MPEG-2 or MPEG-4 to get higher quality since software encoding in real time is using 100% CPU.

New to VLC, I'm having trouble setting this up. I can't even get streaming setup with the camcorder plugged into IEEE1394.

Any tutorial or help greatly appreciated.

Hi,

Select File /Open and then the direct show tab. Than press "Refresh" for the audio and devices. You should see your capture device in it.

output option?

Postby wilri01 » 19 Oct 2006 18:16

Yes, I did that. It finds "something" - not the same description I see with other software - but nothing in the audio, just video.

Assuming all I need is the video, what output options do I use? And can I use Windows Media or other player at the client side, or just VLC?
