transcoding to wma

Postby jingke2000 » 17 Sep 2006 21:57

Hi there,
I just started using VLC. I'm trying to transcode v.264/AVC to wm9 (wmv 3). However, in the VLC GUI, there's no wma option in the audio trancode. Why is that?
Also, if I trancode the audio to mpeg audio, Windows Media player doesn't play it. Anyone knows what the problem is?

I am looking for a solution for the same problem here. I want to transcode different types of videos into wmv/wma asf files that I will be able to watch on a Compaq iPaq pocketPC with Pocket Media Player. I tried to transcode videos with the ASF container, the wmv video codec and I tried every sound options and it always play perfect video and no audio on the iPaq. What could I do?

This works for me:
#transcode{acodec=wma,ab=64}:standard{access=mmsh,mux=asf,url=:9999}

you cannot choose this from the drop down list, but it does work if you manually type wma. setting any other value for ab does not work for me. also wma is case sensitive.

i also have "Windows Media Encoder 9 Series" and "Windows Media Video 9 Advanced Profile Update Beta" installed to make sure i have the dmo drivers for this audio encoder.

When also streaming video this works for me:
new a broadcast
setup a enabled
setup a input somefile.mpg
setup a output #transcode{vcodec=WMV2,vb=256,acodec=wma,ab=64}:standard{access=mmsh,mux=asf,url=:8888}
control a play

Return to “VLC stream-output (sout)”
