Confirming VLC streaming behavior

Postby TekisFanatikus » 11 Oct 2006 22:05

If I understand correctly, one cannot use VLC to stream to the internet. That is, to have the VLC broadcast to port forwarded traffic from the router.

The trick is to specify the IP to where you want to broadcast. Can you specify more than 1 IP to broadcast to?

I'm thinking of using Hamachi to enable "internet"-ish behavior. Anyone ever try this before?

I have used VLC to stream to the internet. By using the HTTP method other people have been able to view the stream from their computers. Most of the time though the stream was very glitchy. It may also be possible using the RTP Unicast option, but then you could only stream to a single computer.

I wouldnt advise trying to stream over the internet unless its music or you have something faster then cable. I have had very limited success with movie files. The best success I ever had was streaming an anime episode to myself at school from home (about a mile away and we both have the same ISP)
