Complete newbie needs help using VLC

Postby meldives » 30 Sep 2006 08:12

Hi,

I am a complete newbie to all of this, so please forgive me.

I havedownloadedmy first thing using uTorrent, now I want to play it, so I have downloaded VLC.

To get it to play is it as simple as going "file" "open quick file" and selecting the file I want to play? If so, why isn't my file playing? I'm using XP and the latest version of windows. What other information do you need?

thanks,
meldives

Yes opening a file is as simple as that.

But to figure why your file isnt playing, first of all, what format is it? What is the file extension?

Maybe you haven't downloaded the beginning of the file ?
Maybe the codec is not supported.

Try to see what the messages windows says.

I am having same problem!

Postby icinycity » 02 Oct 2006 14:12

Hello, I am having the exact same problem, except for ONE show that i downloaded on utorrent, it works fine and automatically plays, but for all the others, nothing happens!

Can someone please advise. How do i change the file type to VLC format? Is that possibly the problem? When I download from utorrent, do i need to somehow specify i will be using vlc?

Many thanks to anyone who can help me troubleshoot.

utorrent downloads may be encrypted .wmv files with drm protection
that mean that you are not allowed to copy the files to another computer, and only the original owner of the file can view it, and only with window media player... no luck
