Streaming my webcam

Postby lagarazo » 20 Sep 2006 17:18

I am trying to stream my webcam output to another computer, but nothing is in the network.

I have WindowsXP in both computers. It works fine when I stream a video file, and I can see my webcam in the local computer.

But it does not work when I try to stream my webcam output to another computer. I have tried with the GUI, and with the command line:

vlc.exe -vvv -I rc --ttl 12 dshow:// vdev="VGA USB Camera" adev="USB Camera" size="300x200" --sout=#std{mux=ts,access=udp,dst=192.168.1.1}

No UDP packet is in the network in both cases. When I try from the console , the output is:

Same here.. :(

Postby ercos » 21 Sep 2006 14:53

Same problem here and no replys to my simillar post either. I have tryed 2 different webcams, a Video Input USB device and currently testing a Hauppage TV card and analog camera. Results are the same: picture on server computer but not in the client one. Plain video plays fine on both computers.

My gut feeling tells me that its something to do with webcam lacking dshow compatibility or MPEG encoding. Still that wont help me on my goal, to broadcast some live feed to local area network. Its a simple problem but noone seems able to help us..

They say in the manual that you can do it, and how to do it, but it does not work at all.

So maybe it is because some bug. How can we contact the developer team?

Breakthru

Postby ercos » 21 Sep 2006 15:35

Made some breakthru! When using a RAW stream (not encoded), as webcam and Video inputs, u need to transcode the stream. Thats bechause RAW format is to large to stream to network.

OK this what i did: File > Open Capture Device ...
Video device name: Logitech QuickCam Express
Checked Stream/Save checkbox
Under settings i checked boxes:
Outputs: Play locally, HTTP (type in address of your machine)
Transcoding options: Video codec (preselected mp4v works fine)

On client computer I opened networks stream under http. And the video screen appeared!!!

Only problem i seem to have now is the freeses what occure every few seconds.

Hope this helps u. Seems that now an then you have to ask question to become to answer yourself..

Thank you.

I am trying this, and now I can receive audio, but not video.

I have tryed every video coded, and none of them work. This is what I get in the console running

You missed the key in your command vcoded -> vcodec.

vlc.exe -vvv -I rc --ttl 12 dshow:// vdev="" adev="" --sout=#transcode{vcodec=mp4v,acodec=mp3,ab=192,channels=2}:duplicate{dst=std{access=rtp,mux=ts,dst=192.168.1.1:1234}}

Sorry, what do you say I missed?

Yes I got it, I should be stupid.

Changing that and the video codec used, I got it working.

Thanks!! :)

cannot create packetizer output (s16

Postby clubwashbrno » 30 Apr 2007 12:21

Hi, I'm trying to set-up a webcam via VLC and watch it on a network pc.

I can see my usb-webcam normaly when I use VLC.
I can stream .avi files normaly over the network.
But when I want to stream my webcam over the network i get an error. I cant find anything about this error message: cannot create packetizer output (s16l)

I use the gui to start it.
