VLC sometimes play .flv videos and sometimes not

Postby Nameless » 01 Aug 2006 15:02

Hello

I'm using VLC 0.8.5 on Windows ME.
VLC sometimes play .flv videos and sometimes not (See ftp://streams.videolan.org/incoming/FLV/ for example files).
The first time I open a .flv video, VLC is playing it, but not a second or a third time (example file: Poor 'ol Bill Gates.flv). Determinate .flv files VLC isn't playing at all (example file: Vista Oops.flv).
Could it be a problem with the video codec?

Bye

.flv can use VP6 videocodec, which is a proprietary codec which we do not support yet.
Don't use PMs for support questions.

From the sound of it I think (s)he is downloading them, not streaming them. There are quite a few in the Windows forum that say they are having problems after downloading. Unfortunately, of the samples quoted as being problems, I have looked at (all from youtube) I can't confirm the problem. They play for me (Reference 0.8.5-final) the first time and for ever after. Except for the seeking problem, which is known. The same users say they don't have this problem with 0.8.4 or 4a.

Anyway, the problem exists.
I've downloaded some flvs, that are played for the first time (from the harddrive!), but not for the second time. That's so weird.

Heard that some people can play .flv files well with VLC 0.8.5. Mine did play alright, everytime too, just that it has audio but no images at all.

Know any ways to solve this problem?

So all troubles disappeared with 0.8.4.
Though, they still exist in 0.8.6 nightly.

I could not get it to work under 0.8.5

I played some flv files fine under 0.8.4a. Then I uninstall and install 0.8.5 and only 1 file played. Then I remove and re-install 0.8.4a and it doesn't play flv files anymore. I repeat the uninstall/install with 0.8.4a and 0.8.5 for a while then I say let's restart the computer after uninstall VLC.

So, after restart, I reinstall 0.8.4a, and it works now with version 0.8.4a

I can confirm that.

Recently I reinstalled my Windows and all programs, used the new 0.8.5 version of VLC and couldn't play most of my .flv files.

Uninstalled it and isntalled 0.8.4a still no luck. Uninstalled again, restarted PC installed 0.8.4a and everything worked again.

Any idea what might be wrong with version 0.8.5?

Wait for next version. 0.8.6 or try the latest nightly builds.

Little update:
Today's nightly still produces the same error.
