VLC crashes at startup under SUSE 10

Postby Borealis » 19 Jan 2006 04:11

Hej you all!

I searched here and on Google but I didn't find any solution. I did install VLC without any problem, using Yast and the RPMs from http://packman.links2linux.org/. It did create a shortcut under Multimedia>Video player but the program never starts... The icon bounces for a while but nothing more happens.

By typing "vlc" in a shell, I get the following error report:

Code: Select all

vlc: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/libavcodec.so: undefined symbol: faacDecOpen
What the hell about "faacDecOpen" ???

Help please!

Did you ever figure out what the problem was?

I'm having the same problem now, and there is almost no information out there on how to solve it...but a fair number of questions about it.

Thanks,
Michael

Update the installed shared lib from FFmpeg(libffmpeg) and Faad2.
You can do that with Yast, you have to refresh the PackMan installations source to get the updated packet information.

You can also use smart to update your rpm:

Code: Select all

smart upgrade --update
If you want to update all rpm.
