VLC upnp problem on ubuntu 6.06

i'm new to Linux and am running Ubuntu 6.06. I have an NSLU box (unslung with 6.8 firmware) running twonkymedia and would like to use vlc as a upnp client. I have downloaded and installed 0.8.5 but can't find any mention of upnp anywhere. I expected to see something under Services Discovery in the PlayList/Manage window but there's nithing there. I assume I am missing some kind of module? Any idea what I need to do to get this working?
