hotkeys - scrolling

Im trying to "scroll" the movie while watching it
basically I just want to skip some moments
but whatever I would do, the film always scrolls by 10 seconds

the hotkeys seem not to work, despite the fact the time is set to one second

this feature works WELL in best player (press left/right)
but I had to use VLC to open one movie which bestplayer doesnt support
there is no way to get the scrolling work, sometimes it skips by 3 seconds, sometimes by 1, but usually by 10+

the jumps seem to be buggy

what to do??


actually it seems to be completely random (but not random, the same jump lenghts are every time)

maybe it is some sort of hidden acceleration or wtf

The jump sizes and hot keys are defined in Preferences, Hotkey settings.

This does assume that the file does not have an encoding problem that interferes with seeking within a file.

This is because you cannot actually seek down to the second. It usually goes to the nearest "index" point of the file. The "rate"/amount of these indexes, can vary greatly per file, resulting in the behaviour you noticed.

Please also note that the seek is not key frame accurate as most players do not do this and there are some anomalies associated with this (more so in some formats and encoding schemes than others). Of the players that do offer key frame accuracy the seek time is greatly increased.

I was just wondering the same thing.

I'm trying to scroll to a specific part late in an .mp4 movie, Quicktime doesn't have any problem and scrolls straight to the right place, but VLC shows blank video and audio, although the counter is still ticking away...

not sure if you have actually managed to repair it or not
but other players like `bestplayer` or `vplayer` actually somehow manage to solve this problem
