I've started working on a new design for the VLC Website Redesign Contest.

So far, I've worked only on the main page. You can see its current state there : http://www.terzag.info/vlc/.

I've reworked the HTML code to be CSS-compliant (no design in the code by using tables, all is done with CSS).

It has been tested in Firefox 1.5 (Linux / Windows), Opera 9 (Windows) and Internet Explorer 6 (Windows). There are issues with IE (which is not really a surprise) :
- the most obvious : the browser can't handle transparent PNGs. I think there is a workaround/hack, but I haven't tried it yet.
- strange behaviour : when loading the page, the top menu isn't displayed. If you scroll in the page or even move the cursor on a link (top right part of the screen), it'll appear. I don't know where this problem comes from.

I'm pleased to see such great drafts for the new VLC site. This concept of keeping the site as simple as possible is just the right thing for a product as VLC - it turns the feeling and the whole apperance of the software into a likable thing that doesn't want to pretend to be something that it simply isn't.

In order to be a little bit more critical concerning your draft:

I think you should work over the placement of the vlc identity. Even though the orange logo is put in the left top corner, a strong eye catcher that says "This is the official website of VLC" is missing. The rest of the site is very promising and I look forward to the day the best draft will be chosen.

Please be compliable - I'm from Germany so I hope that you can handle this text.. It's been a while since I had to write something in English ;)

Added to the wiki page.

Do you have a .jpeg screenshot in order to add it to the contest page ?

I've added the two other required pages :
http://www.terzag.info/vlc/download.html (preview : http://www.terzag.info/vlc/vlc-download.jpg)
http://www.terzag.info/vlc/windows.html (preview : http://www.terzag.info/vlc/vlc-windows.jpg)

It's not finished yet, I have to rework the header / logo and the Windows page a bit to make it more compact.

(Of course, there are still issues with IE 6, I'll fix them later, don't worry.)

I like the orange theme, but the images are a bit oversized on the one page. Very nice work.
