desktop capture + streaming

Postby shadowsofnight » 20 Jul 2006 17:26

Is it possible to use VLC with or without other software to stream 'screen grabs' under windows? specifically powerpoint presentations. I noticed the directshow capture devices option, and wondered if it was possible to find something that would mirror my moniter to a directshow device so that i could grab it, but really wasn't sure what to search for to begin.

thanks for any help that you can provide.

i want to watch a desktop over vlc, which will mostly be playing powerpoint.

i'd use vnc or some such instead, however ideally i want to use a hardware decoder box to do the receiving, so an mpeg type stream would be better. plus, i'm not sure how well vnc would deal with video, both frame rate and overlay problems wise.

You can always use WME (windows media encoder) if VLC can't do the trick

was trying to avoid downloading codecs, but might indeed be the solution.

Did it work?

I need to do the same thing. Mirror a desktop to other desktops via a network. Where you able to get it working & if so how? I am new to vlc & have been exploring options to accomplish this for several weeks now.

This topic is interesting to me too. We would like to stream colloquia. vlc could do the video and audio of the speaker, but we would want to stream the laptop presentation as well. It would be nice if vlc could handle both.

I wonder if vlc could take input from vnc and stream it.
