Blue Tint and double image

Often when I play any sort of video file, There appears to be a blue tint in the VLC screen. Also, it looks like there is a mini shadow of the video in the top left corner. It only started doing this a little less than a week ago. Is there any simple way to fix this?

The monitor is a CRT? If so try moving those big speakers a bit further away from it.

You can also try resetting your video card to the defaults for Color, Direct3D, Open GL and Overlay.

In VLC's Settings, Extended GUI be sure the settings are at the default or enable and restore defaults. You may want to be sure it works first, for some video cards it doesn't.

You can also try erasing the preferences directory. C:\Documents and Settings\Owner (this is you)\Application Data\VLC Erase VLC, Application Data is a hidden directory so you will need to make it visible.

I too still have the same problems with VLC. I try to watch a video and I see everything in a blue tint. I have tried removing the hidden preffences folder and that still doesnt accomplish anything. I have also tried downgrading to different versions, and currently am using 0.8.2. My graphics are intergrated so I cant really restore the default coller sttings. I also installed the Direcx runtime environments (Feb 2006), which did improve from my previous situation of no video and sound. I wish I could show you what I mean but when I try to take a screenshot it shows the screenshot with no tint and everything appearing normal. I have no clue why this is happening, and would like some more insight on this problem.

Try to update your video drivers and gain the utilities for setting the features of the video card from the manufacturer of the chip set or from the manufacturer of the motherboard.

You can try preferences --> Video and uncheck the box marked "Overlay video output" then go to preferences --> Video --> Output modules --> DirectX and uncheck the box marked "Use hardware YUV->RGB conversions" then press save and restart the player.

You can also try shutting down directx in Preferences --> Video --> Output Modules and using the pull down to select "Windows GDI video output". Then save and restart VLC.

tried all of that and it still didnt work. I still get the same blue tint on the replay. I have also checked, and my graphics drivers are up-to-date.

video drivers without utilities today are truly rare. Built in chip set or not makes no difference. I think you need to check again.

If you have a flat panel or CRT monitor try looking in it's setup for color temperature and set it for the highest rating. I think it's 9600 K. If you have a CRT monitor try manually degaussing the CRT you may need to do this several times to get rid of the distortion.

Another thing to try is another Media player to see if the problems also exist there.

If the monitor is a flat panel it may be failing, try it on another machine if possible.

I have the same problem too. It turns everything red to blue, and vice versa.
All of my drivers are up to date and all other media players are working fine.

I think the problem may be the graphics card itself, 'cause mine is really weak.

If the video card is running out of memory during usage strange issues do occur. Try reducing the resolution and or color depth and see is the problem goes away.

well I did go back and check, and I downloaded the utilities like you said. Tried watching the sopranos season final and I still got the sun exposed tint. I have also watching other media players, but they work slow since my stupid computer is 6 years old. The only thing I can think of now is that I just recently, 1 week ago, re-installed windows.

i'm seeing the same problem, but if i open the file in windows media player and then reopen it in vlc it shows fine... haven't had time to really look into it, but it doesn't seem to be any sort of setting that's done incorrectly.

Try shutting off the video acceleration inside VLC. Settings, Preferences, Video, untick the "Overlay video output" box and save. Now close VLC and restart. Then try to call a file, within VLC.

Have the same problem, a blue tinted double image in the upper left corner, sometime just blue horizontal and vertical lines. This appears to be a problem with VLC since the file play fine in divx. Until there is an update that fixes this i suggest just using divx. Im using a flat panel so the CRT advice does not apply and i have the newest version of VLC

Well degaussing the tube may not apply! But color temperatures still do apply in most flat panel monitors. I personally think this is reaching though as some of these posts sound more like video memory issues in which reducing the resolution and or color depth should produce a clean display.

Eh, I have the same problem... even though my computer is decent. The other video players don't do this. I get a red tint instead of a blue one. I've started having this problem.

I dont believe this is a memory problem, since i can open up file after file, some with the blue tint problem some not in a short amount of time. This experiment is repeatable and i have verified that they all play fine divx.

Hmm..I don't know why, but if I click full screen I the screen just gets black though..But maybe that'll stop if I reboot

Ok, so I just rebooted, and here's my new problem :


If I choose the thing I just quoted I have perfect image, but I can't choose full screen, or my screen will be black. The audio will still work, but I won't see anything....

I have a 32 mb videocard, so you think that could be the problem?

Ok, so when I choose the thing in Output-Modules, or something like that..The Windows GDI-thing, I can actually play files full screen, and everything seems to work fine.

Two things I wonder though: all of a sudden the two-clicks make the screen go fullscreen is one click?

And the screen seems weird. Like there are a lot of pixels all of a sudden that aren't supposed to be there?

Try reducing the resolution and or color depth for your video card as it rather sounds like insufficient video memory. Yes! In some cases for older video cards the GUI creates a pixelated picture.

After making the changes to your video card, you will need to turn DirectX back on or reset the defaults.

Just had this problem, it's all to do with your codecs. Use GSpot and check all codecs available, then take steps to remove them all from your system. Find one legitimated codec decoder for that format, (had this problem with both divx and xvid), and re-install it.

While your scenario may work fine for a dshow player, VLC is NOT a dshow player. So Windows codecs don't effect it.

There is a very simple solution to your issue:

Reset all your settings to default(Everything you have been told is not correct)

Now open a video file in vlc and play it.
Go to Video>Deinterlace>Disable

This will close the video.

Restart VLC and play your video again....Fixed!

I Would Like To Add That I Have Just Discovered The Solution To This Problem

I had this exact same problem, which only started a few weeks ago
where everyt time i open a video in vlc player, the image was tinted blue
i could quickly remedy the problem by changing the 'hue' settings in the options menu but then when i closed and opened vlc, the problem would be back
i then remembered that i had changed by system colour settings at around the same time as the problem started
so to fix the problem, i simply click on START/Control Panel/Display, Then click on the settings tab and change the colour quality to 32bit (I has previously set it to 16bit to speed my pc up as its a old, underpowered machine)
So after performing the above actions, i opened VLC and opened a video file and Voila!
Works perfectly with no blue tint
