Skin configuration files ?

Postby agarios » 22 Jun 2006 08:09

Hello-

I am in the process of making an unattended Windows installation CD, that is, a CD which will install Windows automagically without requiring any user inputs (http://unattended.msfn.org/unattended.xp/) . Besides from Windows, I am also automatically installing a few third-party applications, such as VLC.

I would like to install VLC with a different skin from the default one.

For a few days now, I have tried figuring out what were the configuration files or registry settings VLC was using to determine its skin. So far to no avail. I have even made snapshots of my whole computer, changed VLC's skin, took another snapshot, and compared the two (http://www.prismmicrosys.com/whatchange ... -faq.htm#1): nothing glaringly useful came out of it.

My question is thus the following: how does VLC manage to keep its skin settings? What configuration files should I copy, what registry settings should I set upon VLC installation in order to have a non-default skin installed as part of my custom installation?

Any tips, advice or pieces of information would be greatly appreciated.

Eric

The skin to use is a setting like any other, stored in the preferences file. Its location on your system can be found in the FAQ (usually it is in Documents and Settings\...\Application Data\vlc). The parameter skins2-last contains the path to the skin file to use (provided that you are using the skins2 interface).

To use the skins2 interface, you can set the "intf=skins2" parameter in the configuration file (or you can change it in the preferences and save, for example).

I advise you to place the new skin in the "skins" sub-directory of vlc installation directory, so that it can be automatocally detected and proposed in the list of skins, when right-clicking on a skin.

Nothing has to be changed in the registry for the skins.
