Signing axvlc.cab with Trusted Publisher Signature

Postby gelber » 10 Nov 2005 18:47

Hi all,

at least in Windows XP with SP2 and Security level on Default, you can't install axvlc.cab via ActiveX because cab file hasn't been signed by Trusted Publisher.
It doesn't also work if I sign it with self-signed certificate.

I could purchase valid certificate on my own and sign cab file, to make it "trusted", but was wondering if developers are planning to make that cab file signed by trusted authority some time soon, so users can get player installed without changing security level, or would that be something I have to do on my own ?

Regards

Gelber

errr ... that would cost a lot of money. I guess that we won't be doing so anytime soon except if someone provides us with the means to do so (for free ...)

If I would get valid signature from one of major providers on my own, would it be a problem to use M$ signtool just to sign CAB file you provide anyway ?

I am not so familiar with license details, but I would just sign the file you provide, so end-users can get it installed through Internet Explorer with default security level.

I think this is about $165 per year at

http://www.instantssl.com/code-signing/

This isn't much - cant we start a separate donation pool for this?
