Missing Video (0.8.5, error -2147467263)

Postby Kiachi » 10 Jun 2006 23:46

I'm trying to find a good media player for my computer, and as VLC has worked really good for my siblings, I want to try it. I keep running into problems though: it never shows the video.

Currently, I'm trying to get the 0.8.5 version to work on Windows XP SP2. It keeps showing the error 'vout_directx warning: could not blit surface (error -2147467263)'. Sound works perfectly fine.

The other stuff that shows up in messages are:

Anyone who can help? I'm getting a bit frustrated with not being able to play any videos.

Perhaps describing what you are trying to do would be more helpful than a Messages file.

It seems you are trying to play a playlist according to messages. But if the references to the playlist do not exist VLC will play nothing. So you might try to see which files you are having problems with that are not playlists. Please note the format for audio, video and container type. The formats maybe found by selecting the View tab and then Stream and Media Info... Advanced. The container type is the extension of the file, like something.mpg

Always call a file into VLC when you are having problems to rule out a possible Windows interface problem.

OK, let's see... I've tested with a number of files actually and none of them works. They're supposed to be your average avi files encoded with xvid, mpga sound, nothing strange there. I've tried opening them by clicking on the file I want to play, quick open and open file. Just to try, I also tried opening an mkv file (xvid, a52,a52) (didn't work, but then I didn't expect it to).

Playing around with the thing, I got a picture if I unchecked the 'hardware yuv to rgb' button if with slight choppiness and inversed colors if that's to any help. Still with avi (xvid, mpega).

Preferences, Video, Output Modules and using the pull down to select "Windows GDI video output". Then save, restart VLC

Assuming this works, your video card's drivers need updating.

But what you have already tried also indicates this.
