Web Interface

Postby jrleighton » 12 May 2006 04:55

I am using VLC 0.8.5 for Win32.

I might be a bit of a newbie, but I cannot seem to get the web interface working.

A simple question: if I select Settings --> Add Interface --> Web Interface, then is there supposed to be another screen appearing, or is there a tick mark supposed to appear next to the words "Web Interface" in the menu ? As far as I can see, nothing at all happens.

In any event, I cannot get anything to appear in my browser when viewing http://localhost:8080.

Does anyone have any tips for me please ?

Thanks very much

I have the same problem with VLC 0.8.5!(XPSP2)

When i first time installed with VLC 0.8.5 everything was fine. I was able to access the web interface. But now when i enter http://localhost:8080 in firefox or 127.0.0.1:8080 in IE i get nothing. The web interface is not showing even if is enabled in settings.
I also noticed that in HTTP section of settings the port is 8081. I changed to :8080, but the next time i start the player and enter the settings - again :8081.
I tried with uninstalling and reinstalling, even with restoring system to an earlier time, butt still nothing.

Please help me!

No, nothing is supposed to happen here. You just need to open your browser and go to http://localhost:8080.

So, if you get nothing in your browser, do you get an error instead? If so, what error is it?

And this problem could come from a bad setting in your preferences. I would recommend you to reset them using "vlc --reset-config" from a command line, and then try again.

When I open my browser and go to http://localhost:8080 (or 127.0.0.1:8080) the message swows up - "The page cannot be displayed".
Also I tried with setting prefferences to default, but that does not help.

Hmm, very strange...

Could you please open the View -> Messages... panel, then activate the Web Interface, and paste what you get in the Messages panel?

I noticed when i originally tried the web interface that I couldn't find the page anyway I used Sysinternals TCP view to see which port it was listening on and it was actually 8085. I later found this in one of the config files in the program dir so you may want to check which port is actually configured.
