WinLIRC support

Hello,
I would GREATLY appreciate WinLIRC support for VLC Windows port. Lirc and linux VLC work fine, but it is a sad deficiency in VLC under Windows.

It couldn´t be so hard to port lirc support to Windows version of VLC. I have seen source code for lirc+VLC, WinLirc and (Win)lirc+Mplayer and I think that for someone, who knows programming, it is a piece of cake.

i was considering adding ir remote control support using the windows buildin api. WinLirc doesn't seem to be very active these days. (But it would be far easier to add winlirc support ... so i'll give it a try)

this is a great message
I know that lirc version is 0.8.0 and WinLIRC ported version is 0.5.4pre9, but it works fine (with BSPlayer, MplayerC, ...) and it is very useful. Especially if you want to create full-value TV from streamed DVB and VLC windows clients.

Pehaps, because LIRC is VERY simple? "TCP doesn't seem to be very active these days... rigth?".

Please, LIRC is the facto-standard for remote control in the Open Source scenario (not only Linux, but several embbeded devices with Linux inside). You need to support WinLIRC!

I've almost finished the native remote control code for windows media center edition compatible remote controls. I hope to finish it on saturday.
I'll then see if winlirc is really needed ... but all remote controls which basically work with WMP will work with VLC.

Please, WinLIRC is THE FACTO standard for remote support!!!!! We need it!!!! It's very simple, is fast, is practical: why not include it?

Microsoft MCE remote support is not practical in any sense! We don't need it, as ALL products supports WinLIRC (except VLC).

I have not Windows media center edition, I don´t use WMP (I use VLC ) and I don´t think that this is the right way. I would prefere GNU based remote control plugin. I thought (Win)Lirc is the choice.

I would like to use my remote control and I would like to have a chance to decide which remote control. I don´t know if my rc is compatible with WMCE and I don´t want to probe that.

i don't have media center edition either, just good old windows XP. (but i have microsoft remote control to test) Most remote controls which work on windows XP are likely to be compatible ... so i'll ask people to test. If many can't get it to work, i'll have a look at winlirc.

Why do you want to have a system for IR Renotes only?
Wouldnt it be ways better to have an universal system for input devices?

For Example where is still the logitech iTouch Problem if you use an other skin when the basic skin ( and since I use two monitors the basic skin issnt so usefull for me). Where are also other Repotes like Medions Remotes based on the X10. Such devices do not work with WinLirc. But an universal system would support each and every connected device even if some have to place a programm between VLC and the device (in the upper cases it would be WinLirc or Itouch).

I imagine something like that:
You open the page which cotains the thing im speaking about in the moment.
You have two rows(i hope it is row, my english isnt so good)
on the right side you have a drop-down menu with every command VLC supports like PLAY, STOP and so on.
On the left side you see the command which makes the the event on the right happen (maybe with the device name)
Since it is not so easy to find out the commands your device sends there is an feature like in most PC games.
You just have to click onto the left side and the pc will wait for the next event (like pressing a button on you keyboard or your remote our even your game controller) and use this event to trigger the command spezified on the right side of the sheet.

I hope you could understand me and what such a system would be possible.

Please, considerer this:

1. Any Media Center compatible remote can speak LIRC protocol (using opensource proxy software).

2. No one combination exists for translate LIRC protocol to Microsoft MCE remote protocol.

3. LIRC protocol supports remotes on "remote" machines (not only computers, but simple hardware with IR receivers connected to network).

I feel that WinLIRC (for Windows, but LIRC protocol in general) is a HIGH requirement for VLC.

It is obvious that only a few people work on VLC development and that IR RC support for Windows is not the main task, but I have read http://wiki.videolan.org/index.php/Mini_Projects and maybe You could consider to add IR RC support as a project...

I'm using WinLIRC with my TV remote and tuner remote in AIMP (listen music) and Light Alloy (watch video). Can you add WinLIRC support to VLC to switch IPTV channels with any remote?

It would be quite big addition, so I am guessing it wouldn't be on 1.1 branch. And AFAIK nobody is interested on this.
