VLC As A Server - Need Help

I have an encoder converting live video and audio. It is setup to multicast on 224.0.0.15:2000. Player is installed on four test workstations. All workstations play feed perfectly. Excellent player.

Tried to unicast the same feed from Workstation 1 to a laptop with fixed IP address (192.168.0.200) no success. Always get "nothing to play"

Help would be appreciated

Moved the VLC to a Windows 2003 server and have been able to run encoder outputs to the server and transcode and multicast from the server to the LAN. Just takes a little more patience and reading the FAQ and Streaming How-To.

Very impressive piece of software.

Now to get VLS to run on the same machine.

Why would you want to run VLS ? it hasn't been update for at least 3 years and VLC can do everything that VLS can.

Maybe I am missing something in VLC. I need to automate the loading of vlc to ensure that all streams and network settings are correct each time the streaming server is started or restarted.

I have network feeds from 4 encoders via UTP 100Base T, plus feeds from a CD tower and local DVD. Too many things could go wrong. Using the cfg file in VLS allows me to make changes. I want to be able to remotley access the system and make changes if necessary.

Can one write a .cfg file for VLC. I agree that VLC is much more user friendly.

Using VLM you can load command batches. (See help/forum/wiki for more info)

Where did you download it ? (VLC binaries on the official mirrors should be fine)

For anyone following this thread I would suggest downloading the VLC .0.8.5. If you are trying to stream any video be sure to try the HTTP interface as this will make your life easier. The development team has done a great job on the stream setup and provides an ability to save configurations.

The VLM http interface has also made our stream deveopment testing go alot easier also. We have a few questions but will post these as separate entries. We are down to the really finer details.

Bottom line: We are really pleased with the new release. Once we get the multiple stream and archiving issues fully tested we will post our results.
