Wallpaper mode + XP Alpha

Postby Tombigel » 09 Apr 2006 01:54

When using vlc in desktop mode, every windows element (Icons, windows etc.) that has an alpha channel shows opaque.

Is there a way to enable alpha blanding? is it a VLC thing or an XP thing (no alpha blending over video)

Actually, this is a video card thing

Try clearing your card to it's defaults for Direct3D, OpenGL, Color and Overlay.

I have a Radeon X300.

Couldn't find any settings that reffer to alpha or overlay

But every ATI card offers a reset condition for Direct3D, Color, OpenGL and Overlay. Right click anywhere on your desk top and select Properties, Settings, Advanced

Done the reset, does nothing.

You have any idea which specific setting is it?

I guess I should have also included Color in the group of resets for ATI cards. I'm not sure which of the resets specifically. I generally clear all of them.

There is also a possibility of Windows Themes being an issue. So you may want to check this by going back to the default Theme. Some users have found setting the windows background to none resolves the issue. But this fix has not been consistent. However I still believe this is more Windows related than VLC related, IE the video card's drivers and or DirectX.
