How to listen a SHOUTcast listen.pls in terminal mode?

Postby acidburn » 12 Apr 2006 08:03

So...
I have a nice radio in my country at jy.lv - an latvian bloggers site.

So I want to listen to it using VLC on gentoo.
I saved the listen.pls file on my hdd.
Now I'm trying to open it with the VLC.
But it's not workin'. :(
My log file:

Code: Select all

with command - vlc http://217.28.48.150:8000/listen.pls -I dummy -vvv

Code:

[00000232] main private debug: pre buffering
[00000230] access_http access error: invalid HTTP reply '[playlist]'
[00000232] main private error: cannot pre fill buffer
[00000228] main input warning: cannot create a stream_t from access
[

Hi, just tried your radio station is working, just listened to it successfully from
here (in the UK). Look at error log above. Invalid HTTP reply. I think that the stream was unavailable when you tried to connect or other network problems.
Works fine on Suse 10 from terminal with:

vlc http://217.28.48.150:8000/listen.pls

or I apped -vv for verbose messages. HTH

Maybe this should work:

export http_proxy=http://username:password@proxyipaddress:port/

Place in .bashrc to make permanent.
Create/edit .bash_profile to source .bashrc
Works behind my censornet proxy anyway

I used mplayer exclusively until I found that vlc WORKED behind a proxy on the command line! Great Stuff!

HTH!
