Problem with Skin2 mode...

Postby krnet2dboi » 27 Jan 2006 04:59

I have installed the VLC Media PLayer V0.8.4a

Then afterwards, i downloaded skins for it.

Then i placed the .vlt files in the skin folder of the VLC Media Player directory.

Then as instructed, i turned on the VLC player, Settings > Switch Interface > Skins2 mode...

But right after i click the Skins2 mode, i get a windows that says Open Skin file...

So i clicked on any one of the .vlt skins files that i have, but right after i double clikc the .vlt skin file, my VLC Media Player turns off... No warning sign, no nothing.

So i turned on my VLC Media Player again, and it was just as before, no skin attached.

I have repeated this step thousands of times, reinstalled my VLC plaer hundreds of time. Same Result, with no skin.

Can anyone tell me what the problem is?

P.S. i have tried all the solutions listed on this forum

I've tried
"C:\Program Files\VideoLAN\VLC\vlc.exe" --intf wx <--- erasing that part of the shortcut, replacing that part with --intf skin2...

etc etc

oops i forgot, i also tried going to pereferneces, general, and setting Skinable interface as the interface module.

Then when i start VLC Player, i still get the same window saying to select a Skin... Then same result, VLC turns off, nothing happens.

The problem is probably that in your preferences, in the last remembered layout, all the windows are invisible. So reset your preferences and restart VLC, it should work better.

BTW, in the shortcut you shouldn't use '--intf skin2' but '--intf skins2'.

OK, different guest here from ^^^
I have been farting around with this trying to get a skin to load from here
http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-skins2.html
But it is nowhere to be found, where is this new skin file? Why does it not go to the VLC skins directory? I did it before, but how?
This seems more confusing than it should be?!

What do I do?

OK, I found the drop down menu (can't remember what it's called) then I picked a skin, and voila!
I'm sure I will have to figure how to make it my default skin somehow?

Anything to help further would be appreciated.

Thanks.

When you quit vlc (or save the preferences in the "Preferences" dialog), the last skin used is always saved so you have nothing to do (and if it doesn't work, maybe it means you have the wxwidgets interface instead of skins2 by default, as explained just above)

It would also be helping if you activate message log to see whether any errors occur while loading the skin. Just start VLC with following arguments:
"-I skin -v --extraintf logger"

Bug in the Skin, maybe not supported by your version of vlc.

Are you using VLC 0.8.5 ? If not, your problem is not a bug in the skins, it's just that they use some new features of VLC.

nope, the latest versions of both skins are bug free :P
They run without any errors. Maybe they are not updated on the download site. try downloading them here: http://www.d-gfx.net.tc

I have installed the VLC Media PLayer V0.8.4a
Then I downloaded PsVLC and I used that skin
But the problem is I can't play media (movie files) that it's title written in japanese in skin2 mode (but it is okay in normal mode)
What happened? How can I fix it?

To fix this I did a couple of things...

first, run regedit and search for:

--one-instance-when-started-from-file

Replace all value of this with:

--intf skins2

Load VLC and select the skin you wish to use, and it "should" remember it. If it does not, got to Porgram Files, VLC, Skins folder and delete the "default.vlt" and rename the skin you want to use to default.vlt.

Voila!!!!

PS - I used a registry editor with Search/Replace capabilities: here's the one I used under a free trial that worked perfectly:
http://www.dcsoft.com/ftp/REGC.EXE
