Merging Telnet and RC

Hi,

I've been doing loads of research tonight on the RC and Telnet interfaces, and keep hearing talk of them being merged in future releases. Now I can only _imagine_ how difficult it is for developers to predict when things will be ready, but that's exactly what I'm going to do

Basically, I need to use a combination of RC and Telnet to do what I need to do with VLC. So rather than working really hard on a combination of the two, only to find that a week later this merged version comes out, I thought I'd just ask if the developers had a (very) rough idea of when we can expect this new version?

It's not planned for the upcomming release or the next release (so not within 6 months basically)
