Transparent video window and clickthrough?

Postby Guest » 30 Mar 2004 20:41

Hello,

I've been using VLC to watch movies while I work, and I really like the float on top feature! One thing I was wondering if VLC could do is have the video window transparent. So, I could watch my movie but also see what I am working on undernearth of the window.

Also, another question I have is would it be possible to have the video window not only transparent and float on top, but also be able to click through it? Similar to this app: http://www.cesoft.com/products/translucy.html

Thanks so much for any help you can give me,

Transparency is already implemented. It's hidden away in the preferences.

That's awesome! I tried to find it, but I don't see it anywhere. It is really well hidden. Could you help me find it? :D

Thanks,

Jeremy

it is osx only. I think it is in settings->preferences->plugins->video->macosx

I found it! Thanks so much!!! Your right, it was pretty well hidden. :D

FYI:
Preferences -> Modules -> Interface -> macosx -> Opaqueness slide bar

Just a heads up to anyone trying this. After a while VLC seems to get a frame to stick and not be overwritten by the next, so you have the video playing, but over top of it is a previous frame.

COOL.
I know on Mac that after a certain threshold of transparency is reached, windows become click-through-able.
unfortunately for me it was somewhere under 0.22 when I just tested it, and at that point there wasn't that much video left.
