New icons for wxWindows interface

Postby Sigmund » 15 Mar 2004 21:45

The wxwindows interface is the default interface for vlc on windows and linux. The icons are getting old, and many find them ugly. Therefore some new alternative schemes have been proposed. Look at http://people.via.ecp.fr/~zorglub/vlcicons.html
for the alternatives.

Sorry, but...

First, "use the more recent GNOME icons". where are they? How can I vote for it if I've never seen it?

Then, the "second proposal" is surely cute, but how can you use white on lime green or sky blue? Really, the green icons look all the same to me, I can't recognize the white shapes on them. Icon design basics: high contrast!

I have to kinda agree with him.

It's the reason i took so long to get the new interface in OSX. It's not all about pretty picures. It's about Interface Design. Finding the right combination of pretty, functional, easy to use (contrast etc).
Don't use PMs for support questions.

Yup, it takes a lot of work to make a good - looking interface. The old VLC was too large and not very good , but the new one is bee-yoo-tiful. (OS X version). It looks a lot like iTunes, but it only takes all the good things. Good job guys.

All of these look either very ugly or not very useable to me.
