Choppy Playback - Samsung Laptop - Only when plugged into power

Postby BrainDamage » 02 Dec 2024 17:01

I just got a new laptop. A Samsung Book4 Pro. I have never had a problem with VLC in the past, but now that I have this laptop, I am being challenged with something I just can't seem to figure out.

VLC works perfectly when I am using battery power. As soon as I plug in the laptop to power, the video is choppy. I have tried to change the laptop performance to high performance to no avail. When using Windows Media Player, there is no problem at all.

This is strictly happening when using VLC and being plugged in.

I would appreciate ideas. Thank you in advance.

Please open Tools -> Messages (set Verbosity to 2) before you start the playback, and then paste the full resulting log here or on Pastebin.com or on Justpaste.it if it's too long.

Thank you for your response. It seems that I am getting the same error over and over. I cut the log to fit here because it is repetitious and just reports the same error over and over with a different time number in parenthesis.

What I really don't understand is why this doesn't happen when I am unplugged from power. I would think that using battery power would be less efficient. And, this is the first time I have ever had an issue with VLC on any computer.

Thanks again for the help.

I asked for the whole full complete log, from the very beginning to the very end.
Please proceed as requested:
Please open Tools -> Messages (set Verbosity to 2) before you start the playback, keep the messages window open during the whole process and then paste the full resulting log here or on Pastebin.com or on Justpaste.it if it's too long.

Sorry for doing it wrong the first time. I think this is what you requested. Thanks again for the help.

VLC does not do anything differently based on the power supply. It does not even know if your computer is plugged in or not.

TBH, this sounds like a power management bug in your device drivers or PC vendor bloatware.

No disagreement from me. I found it very odd as well. Although, when I plug in and/or unplug my power supply, which is a USB-C connector, I notice that the screen goes black for a moment, then comes back on, then flashes off/on again. Kind of like when changing screen resolution. I will have to dig in deeper.

Thanks.

So I guess T: is an USB drive. If so, you can try to disable "Allow this computer to turn off this device to save power" for all USB root hubs (Device Manager -> USB root hub -> Properties -> Power Management tab).
Reboot your computer when done.

T is a mapped network drive. There are no USB drives inserted. Having said that, the same issue happens if I am playing a video from the local drive. Thank you for the suggestion, though. I appreciate your assistance.
