Latest version of VLC (3.0.21) failed to play movie file in AV1 format

Postby JHinOC » 14 Nov 2024 18:45

Hi,

I have been using VLC for a long time with no trouble playing any format until AV1. I have a movie file in AV1 file extension, and when I tried to open it, I received the following error.

Your input can't be opened:
VLC is unable to open the MRL 'file://?/UNC/xxxxxxx/Media/Movies/Collections/__X_Twilight_Collection/The%20Twilight%20Saga%20New%20Moon%202009%201080p%20BluRay%20AV1%20Opus%205%201-onlyfaffs/The.Twilight.Saga.New.Moon.2009.1080p.BluRay.AV1.Opus.5.1-onlyfaffs/The.Twilight.Saga.New.Moon.2009.1080p.BluRay.AV1.Opus.5.1-onlyfaffs.mkv'. Check the log for details.

At first, I thought the file was bad, but when I looked online, I found out the file can be played using Windows Movies & TV, and it played with no problem. I'd like to be able to play all files using VLC, any advise on what I need to do to update/fix VLC so it can play AV1 files would be much appreciated.

John

Please open Tools -> Messages (set Verbosity to 2) before you start to browse, and then paste the full resulting log here or on Pastebin.com or on Justpaste.it if it's too long.

But I think the path to the file is too long, you shoud use shorter names for files and folders.
