First use of VLC on a media player

Postby louwin » 21 Sep 2024 12:51

I’ve just spent hours nay days trying with RKMC to access my shared folders on my Windows desktop from my new Android media player. I gave up and loaded VLC went to Browse and there ALL my shared files/folders were. 😬
One thing immediately comes to mind though, the sorting sequence! I have hundreds of TV series and accessing a particular series alphabetically is absolutely painfull! RKMC had the option to access directories by access date so the latest added to directories are presented first. May I suggest adding accessing files (directories) by last access date!?
I’ve used VLC on my desktop but this is the first time I’ve used it on a media player…. 👍😬

This is reported nearby in the Forum, such as https://forum.videolan.org/viewtopic.php?f=35&t=165261

Bottom line: You can, in the Audio section; you can't, in the Browse section; I don't know about Videos; renaming files is a work-around.

Thanks but

Renaming files really isn’t an option. It defeats the whole purpose of naming them properly.

Adding a sorting sequence or two, by date and by file size!? And also allow sorting by ascending or descending would also help.

Anyway, New user, just a suggestion. :) Add a new episode to a series and then get presented with this directory first would be nice….

RKMC has a problem accessing shared folders, hopefully they’ll fix it and I can go back to using it…. :)

Doesn’t matter now! I’ve sent the new media player back for a refund. Gone back to RKMC (Kodi?) on the old player! Won’t use VLC again so no longer interested in its improvement or otherwise!
Might I say that as it is VLC is unusable!
